Netflix just delivered for you fans in a big way. The series returns on October 15 with the sequel to the second season. But before fans can get on with Joe & Love, Netflix announced that you has already been renewed for a fourth season. Now it’s official: the long-awaited third season of you won’t be the last. This probably means that no matter how well the upcoming season does, the show won’t be cancelled.
In any case, the chances of the highly anticipated third season being a flop are pretty slim. As we move into the next chapter of Joe’s life, fans wondered if it would be the last, and Netflix decided to go ahead and put a stop to the speculation and suspense with this announcement.
Now that we know the story extends beyond the upcoming season, it’s both a relief and a disappointment (but above all a relief). We’re glad we won’t be seeing the last of Joe just yet, but it does take some of the suspense off whether his equally crazy husband Love will be the one to take him out this season. The casting announcements for Season 4 have not yet come out and will likely not premiere until Season 3.
At the start of Season 2, Joe moved to LA and changed his name to Will. Shortly after moving, he found his next target in Love, a widowed chef with whom Joe had more in common than he could have ever imagined. Love comes as a packaged deal with her brother Forty, who is affectionate and privileged, yet managed to be our favorite character in Season 2. Joe is shocked when Forty starts dating his ex Candace, who goes by Amy.
There is also a plot involving Joe’s landlord Delilah and her little sister Ellie. Ellie is involved with Henderson, a sleazy comedian played by a real-life sleazy comedian (if the allegations are true, then Chris D’Elia’s life isn’t that different from his character’s). Joe takes it upon himself to protect Ellie and accidentally decides to kill Henderson (kind of).
Delilah and Joe befriend, but her friend in the police force informs her that he saw Joe leaving Henderson the night of his death. She does some digging and discovers Joe’s infamous Plexiglas prison where he holds people he doesn’t know what to do with, usually before she kills them. Joe finds her snooping around and locks her up, but decides not to kill her.
After a wild night with Forty, Joe finds Delilah dead in the cage. Only this time it wasn’t Joe who committed the murder, it was Love. Love kills Delilah, then Candace, revealing to Joe that she knows everything and accepts who he is. Joe doesn’t react the way he should here and is ironically shocked by Love. She tells him she’s pregnant, so they decide to stay together and move to the suburbs.
When we stop with the main characters in season 2, Joe & Love move into their new home, Forty is dead (shot by Delilah’s police friend in a tragic misunderstanding), and Ellie is without a guardian. Joe promises to send her money regularly. Just as Joe seems to be resigned to his fate in the suburbs, he spots a woman on the other side of his fence, and off we go. . .
The Season 3 trailer is out showing Joe & Love welcoming their child, a boy they call Henry. Despite having a wife who is not only willing to accept that Joe is a stalker and a murderer, but is one himself, Joe lets us know via voiceover that he’s still looking for that one. He also expresses concern about being a good man now that he is a father and his hatred for the suburbs.
Judging by the look of the trailer, it looks like Joe hasn’t warmed up to Love anymore. He refers to her as a monster (what, pot, kettle, but oh well). Meanwhile, Love expresses her wish for the couple to start over after all the murders they’ve committed in LA. It also shows that Joe falls in love with their neighbor.
Sure, Joe’s version of falling for someone involves stalking and panty-stealing, so there it is. Our psycho friend Love won’t take this quietly, and we saw in Season 2 just how far she’s willing to go to keep her family together. Joe & Love are also shown in couples therapy, and I hope this one doesn’t suffer the same fate as poor old Dr. Nicky.
We couldn’t be happier with Netflix’s renewal you for a Season 4. Speculation about what will happen in Season 4 is hard now that Season 3 isn’t out yet, but we hope this dysfunctional couple makes it out of Season 3 alive.
Are you happy you has been renewed for season 4? What are you most excited about in Season 3? Let us know in the comments!
